The Health Careers Institute (HCI) offers students training in health care careers
as nursing aides, phlebotomists, insurance coders, transcriptionists and clinical
support assistants positions. Eligible graduates are employed at one of three
area hospitals: Abbott Northwestern, Children's Hospitals and Clinics – Minneapolis
and Hennepin County Medical Center. HCI is sponsored by the Phillips Partnership
and Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
Since its opening in 2000, HCI has already enrolled more than 900 students. To
date, about 130 students now have health care positions.
The Health Careers Institute is located at the Medical Office Building, Room 403,
2545 Chicago Avenue South. Financial assistance and scholarships are available
for Phillips neighborhood residents or for employees who currently work at one
of the three participating hospitals.
