Ramp Parking

Parking is available for patients and visitors in two ramps:

1. Public Parking Ramp (next to the Heart Hospital on the main campus - height clearance of 6'10'')
2. North Ramp (on Elliott Avenue adjacent to Children's Hospitals and Clinics - height clearance of 6'8").

Street Parking

Spaces for on-street parking in the Abbott Northwestern vicinity are very limited, and enforcement is strict. If you want to use on-street parking, please check all posted signs and meters for instructions and restrictions.

Valet Parking

Valet parking is available Monday through Friday exclusively for patients and visitors at the hospital main entrance from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and at the Piper Building from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Medical Office Building also offers valet service from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Emergency Department Parking

(Height clearance: 6’5”)
Parking for Emergency Department patients is available in the Public Parking Ramp; enter directly across from the ED entrance off 27th Street. This parking is restricted to ED patients only. A digital code obtained from ED personnel is required to exit.

Valet service is available. Talk with an ED staff member for more information.

Handicap Parking

Handicap parking is available on Level E of the Public Parking Ramp which has reserved van-accessible spaces (height: 6’10”). Short term handicap parking is also available outside Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute and in the surface lot adjacent to the Minneapolis Heart Institute®. A state issued handicap permit allows vehicles to park in any of these locations.

Patient Pick Up Parking

Short-term parking is available outside the Patient Pick Up area, located on Level E of the Public Ramp, M-F 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring in your parking ticket to the Patient Pick Up desk to receive one hour free parking.

Minneapolis Heart Institute®

Skyway access to the Minneapolis Heart Institute® (MHI) is available on Level E of the Public Ramp. Short-term handicap parking is available on the surface lot adjacent to MHI.

Valet service is available. Stop at the main hospital entrance and valet services will transport you to MHI. After your appointment, call valet services at 612-863-8165 to claim your vehicle.

After Hours Hospital Access

Between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., please park in the Public Ramp and enter the hospital through the Emergency Department entrance.

Radiation Oncology Parking

Permit parking for Radiation Oncology patients is available free of charge in reserved spaces located between the Education Building and Radiation Oncology. Please obtain a permit from the Radiation Oncology Department and display it properly in your vehicle when parking there.

Think Safety When Parking

Abbott Northwestern Hospital security personnel are on duty 24 hours every day to assist you and ensure your safety while on campus. Below are some safety tips you can follow when parking anywhere.

• Park in well-lighted ramps and lots.
• Be alert to your surroundings — look around before getting out of your car.
• Know exactly where you parked and your safest exit route.
• Always lock your car doors.
• Always keep door and ignition keys handy.
• Leave only ignition key with lot attendant.
• Return to car using the buddy system, a group or with a personal escort (612-863-5416).
• Look inside before entering car.
• If someone tries to enter your vehicle, honk horn repeatedly and try to drive away.
