Understanding the signs, symptoms and risk factors for breast cancer is important to overall breast health awareness. Routine mammography, clinical breast examination and breast self-examination are the basic screening tools for early detection of breast cancer.
Piper Breast Center’s advanced screening and diagnostic services can also detect and evaluate breast conditions such as a new lump, cysts, microcalcifications, fibrocystic breast changes, mastitis, concerns about breast implants and cancer.
Fibrocystic breast disease refers to benign (noncancerous) changes in the tissues of the breast. The term "disease" in this case is misleading, and many health care providers prefer the term "change."
A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts. It is used to find tumors and to help tell the difference between noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) disease.
If you have a diagnosis of breast cancer or another problem that requires treatment, an individualized plan will be developed between you and your physician. After a detailed evaluation of your medical concern and a discussion of your personal issues and preferences, the team at Piper Breast Center will recommend treatment options.
