Ways to give

Mercy and Unity hospitals need your support to continue to provide the best possible health care services for all members of our communities. We are a not-for-profit organization, and your gift is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Our donation form (requires Adobe Reader) helps make it easy to give in any of these ways:

  • Planned giving– Certain kinds of planned gifts can provide donors with sizable income over a period of many years. Others can help donors (or their heirs) avoid or minimize capital gains, estate and other taxes. For example, charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts provide income for life for the donor and/or another beneficiary. They also provide income and estate tax deductions. Your remainder gift can be designated to the hospital service or program of your choice.
  • Restricted gifts – You may identify a specific program or service as the recipient of a gift. For example, gifts may be directed to Mental Health, The Birth Center, the Breast Care Program, Cancer Center, The Cardiac Center, Orthopedics and Neurosciences or other services and programs.
  • Unrestricted gifts – Designating your gift to the unrestricted fund will help enable Mercy and Unity move forward in the areas where funding is most needed. An unrestricted gift allows the hospitals the flexibility needed to respond to current and new challenges faced by the people we serve.
  • Tributes/memorials – Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, honoring someone close to your heart, or remembering a loved one, a tribute/memorial gift to Mercy or Unity is a special way of acknowledging their generosity, compassion, and commitment to our communities.
  • Stock - Gifts of appreciated securities may offer substantial tax advantages. These include forgiveness of the tax on capital gain, and an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities.
  • Property - You can give property such as real estate, life insurance, and other assets. These gifts provide tax advantages and may require independent appraisals to meet IRS guidelines.
  • Matching gifts - As a not-for-profit institution, Mercy and Unity are eligible for many matching gift programs from corporations, foundations and other organizations. Check with the human resources department at your workplace to see if your employer matches contributions.

Our pledge to you

Gifts of all sizes are needed and deeply appreciated. Here's what you can expect as a supporter of Mercy and Unity:

  • Responsibility - We will use your gift wisely and well to advance our programs. You can designate your gift for a specific area and be confident that your gift goes where you intend it. All funds raised by Mercy and Unity will be used only at our hospitals.
  • Appreciation - Upon receipt of your gift, we will send you a letter expressing our thanks. The letter documents your gift and serves as your receipt. Your gift is tax deductible as provided by law. For tributes and memorial gifts, a letter informing the honoree of your generosity (excluding the amount of the donation) will be sent to the honoree or their family.
  • Recognition - We publish the names of donors who provide gifts of $100 or more each calendar year in our annual report.
  • Privacy - We respect the wishes of our donors who choose to remain anonymous. Please indicate so on the donation form (requires Adobe Reader).
