Sister Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy Center provides aquatic physical therapy through its clinics in Coon Rapids, Fridley, Minneapolis and White Bear Lake. Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute - Abbott Northwestern Hospital also offers aquatic therapy programs at Wasie Therapeutic Swimming Pool.

Benefits of aquatic therapy include:

• decreased swelling
• increased functional ability
• increased range of motion
• decreased pressure on joints

Treatment Program

The aquatic treatment program may include:

• conditioning/endurance training
• trunk stabilization exercises
• upper/lower extremity strength exercises
• range of motion exercises and joint flexibility
• gait training
• proprioceptive training
• training for return to sport activities

Patients will be evaluated at the Sister Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy Center most convenient to them and transferred to the pool for subsequent visits. Patients will be progressed to an independent water program. A land-based conditioning program will also be developed for patients who may benefit.
