Biorehab

Muscle re-education through EMG Biofeedback

The biorehab system allows biofeedback-using signals such as muscle activity or joint range of motion to participate in a computer game. Goals of biorehab are 1) Muscle re-education, 2) Relaxation to decrease abnormal muscle tone.

The biorehab system is suitable for people who have experienced a medical condition that has affected their coordination and/or strength.

Examples of appropriate conditions for use include stroke, incomplete spinal cord injury (with some preservation of movement below the level of injury), traumatic brain injury, recovery after nervous system or orthopedic surgery, sprains, muscle imbalances and overuse syndromes. Duration of disability is not a factor in predicting improvement.

Some conditions that are inappropriate for bio-rehabilitation are lack of voluntary muscle contraction and complete spinal cord injury – no function below the level of injury. Significantly decreased cognitive awareness or attention or visual impairment may also prevent benefit.
