Nursing at United Hospital

Greetings from Jeff Wicklander, United’s Chief Nursing Officer

Jeffrey Wicklander, RN, BSN, MSN, APRN, BC-NE
Vice President, Patient Care, United Hospital

United is committed to delivering the highest quality health care possible and is equally committed to advancing nursing practice. We respect and recognize our nurses for the tremendous contributions they do for patient care. Our staff provides exceptional patient care in an environment that is supportive, compassionate, healing and promotes professional and personal growth.

United nursing vision

United nurses exemplify the Allina Nursing Charter and the United Nursing Vision by embracing the science and humane art of nursing through accountable and professional behavior, leadership, collaboration and passion for nursing across the continuum of care.

United nursing care model

The United Hospital Nursing care model is based on the nursing care philosophy developed by Florence Nightengale, that "what nursing has to do . . . is to put the patient in the best condition possible for nature to act upon him."

Nursing news

In April 2009, The American Nurses Credentialing Center has granted Magnet recognition status to United Hospital, making it one of only 334 hospitals nationwide — less than five percent of all U.S. hospitals — that have been designated Magnet facilities. The designation is the highest level of recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is valid for four years.

Minnesota Nurses Association

The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) is the professional organization for registered nurses. More than 19,000 nurses in Minnesota are members of MNA and United Hospital nurses have a strong presence in the association.

Research

United Hospital supports nursing research and evidence-based practice activities of all nurses from the staff nurse at the bedside to the advanced practice nurse and other nursing leaders.

Nursing research includes the generation, dissemination and utilization of new nursing knowledge that promotes excellence in professional nursing practice. An evidence-based culture is enhanced through the commitment at all levels of management, from our Vice President of Patient Care to patient care directors and patient care managers, a dedicated director of nursing research and quality, our advanced practice nurses and the Nursing Research Council.

For information about how you can conduct a research project at United, view Nursing Research Approval Process.
