Allina Hospice seeks volunteers

MINNEAPOLIS 06/12/2012--Volunteering with Allina Hospice has many rewards for you as well as the patients and families that we serve. We offer a variety of opportunities utilizing your special talents and skills.

Allina Hospice relies on volunteers and needs your help. We are looking for volunteers, 18 years of age and older, to give a few hours a week. Free training, flexibility, ongoing support and education are provided.

"Volunteers visit patients in private homes and our residential care facilities," said Gloria Cade, Allina Hospice director. "Our volunteers provide companionship, respite for the family, help with errands or transportation, play board games, read to patients, and provide a listening ear and a friendly presence."

Other duties may include helping with, memoirs, walks, meal preparation, haircuts, manicures, letter writing or phone calls. We are also looking for certified volunteers to provide massage and pet therapy, Cade said.

Volunteers at the J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice play a special role with patients at the end-of-life, as well as their caregivers and family members. This new and unique opportunity, in Brooklyn Park, allows volunteers to give their time on-site at the residential hospice while supporting the hospice mission.

"We are looking for friendly individuals to be the warm and welcoming face that all who enter the residence will see," Cade said.

Duties at the Wedum Hospice include greeting and welcoming visitors, providing information about the facility, answering phones, delivering food and other items to residents, some light cleaning and companionship for patients and families. Volunteers at the residential hospice work in four hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Shifts are available seven days a week and are both regular and flexible, depending on what works best for your schedule.
